Tips and Tricks

Poster printing in the TIC can be accomplished using the HP DesignJet 800. Currently, all charges for poster printing are being done through interaccount billing to departments. Cost for printing is minimal and is not meant to be profitable to the College, but only to cover our costs for paper and ink so that we can continue to provide this service to the College and University.

Current rates and available paper types and sizes are as follows:

Paper Type Available Sizes Colored Background Cost
Heavyweight Coated Paper 42”, 36”, 24” Add 50¢/sq. ft. to cost $1.00/sq. ft.
Photo Imaging Gloss 42”, 36” Add 50¢/sq. ft. to cost $1.25/sq. ft.
Self-Adhesive Indoor Paper 36” Add 50¢/sq. ft. to cost $2.00/sq. ft.
Tyvek Heavy Duty (tear resistant) 36” Add 50¢/sq. ft. to cost $2.50/sq. ft.

Anyone wishing to have a poster printed should submit poster to Melanie Bentley at least one week prior to the date you will need the the completed poster. Posters should be submitted in one of the following PC compatible formats :

  • Microsoft PowerPoint (7.0 or below)
  • Adobe Photoshop (CS3 or below)
  • Adobe pdf document
  • Any jpg, tiff, gif, or related graphic type format

NOTE!

  • All posters are printed on a first come, first served basis. The sooner your poster is submitted, the better your chances of having it when you need it.

  • Print services can not be gauranteed for posters that are not submitted at least one week prior to the date they are needed.

  • Please DO NOT submit postscript files.

  • An organizational code and department or area name MUST be supplied to Melanie Bentley PRIOR to printing.

  • All posters are charged based on printable area only, not paper size. The smallest sized paper will be used when possible, but some trimming may be necessary depending on the size of the poster submitted.

  • If a student is printing a poster, an e-mail from a faculty or staff member containing the organizational code and department or area to which the printing will be charged must be sent to Melanie Bentley prior to document printing. I will then send an e-mail back to this person to verify that they will accept responsibility for all charges.

  • It is NOT the responsibility of the TIC, the College or Melanie Bentley to inspect posters for typographical errors or placement of text boxes within a workable margin (please allow at least 1/2 inch margin on all sides of your document).

  • Documents are not proof read prior to printing. It is the responsiblity of the author to make sure all errors are resolved prior to final printing of the document.

Other paper types may be ordered when needed. These include: Two-view cling films, adhesive vinyls, tracing papers, translucent bonds, vellums, clear, backlit, and matte films, photo mattes, photo imaging satin, outdoor banner and sign papers and vinyls, fabric and textile materials, canvas and acid-free archivable papers. If these papers are needed, you must make arrangements with Melanie Bentley to have them ordered at least one month in advance. As some specialty papers are very costly, prices for printing may vary from above cost chart depending on intial cost of paper.
